Smile Train are a global charity created to assist underprivileged children who are born with a cleft palate.
A cleft occurs when certain body parts and structures do not fuse together during foetal development. Clefts can involve the lip and/or the roof of the mouth, which is made up of both hard and soft palate. Around the world, many children with clefts will never receive the reconstructive surgery they need.
Children with untreated clefts face physical difficulties eating, breathing, hearing, and speaking. Cleft treatment alleviates many of these difficulties, ultimately enabling them to thrive.
Dedicating themselves to this particular condition Smile Train have now reduced the cost of this surgery to just £150 per child, and the benefits that this modest sum affords to each individual child are immeasurable.
Our Junior Deacon – Stephen McInerney, suggested that Royal Navy Lodge make a donation to this particular charity and we were delighted to present Smile Train UK with a cheque for £300.00
This makes us want to SMILE
