It has long been the tradition in Royal Navy Lodge that our Senior Warden (the office that precedes the Master) hosts our annual Lodge of Instruction Supper.
This is quite a grand title for what is essentially a warm and social evening with wives, partners, families and friends, or as some would like to badge it – a Ladies Night (but on a smaller scale). This said, on a warm summer evening, forty of us congregated in the bar area of the San Clu Hotel in Ramsgate in anticipation of a good night and fine fare.
Bill Price, our Senior Warden announced that this was the first Lodge of Instruction Supper that he has had to host, despite having been Master of his previous Lodge on no less than three occasions. Despite technically being a novice, Bill and his delightful partner Jan hosted a terrific evening of good food, good humour, and great company.
Whilst dinner was being served we were “serenaded” by a Dolly Parton tribute act who had been booked by the venue as evening entertainment for their hotel guests and visitors. The Dolly-favourites were performed in the hotel bar (not our dining room) with much gusto and in fairness – not an unfaithful impersonation of the Country Legend. However once the Dolly Parton playlist was exhausted,, we were treated to such delight as Dolly Parton does Bon Jovi, and Dolly Parton does Van Halen.
If the humour in the dining room was not enough then “Dolly does” added much comedic relief.
As always with our social events, there is always an opportunity to make a contribution to Charity. On this occasion Bill & Jan elected to support the Pilgrims Hospices, and with the assistance of a raffle (with some fabulous prizes) the evening raised £500 for this undeniably worthy cause.
Well done Bill and Jan, we look forward to your Ladies Night next year.
