Back in 2020, WBro John Mills took the chair of Royal Navy Lodge and his chosen Charity for the year was the guide dogs for the blind. Hi aim, to be able to raise enough money that we could fund a puppies journey through training to help this wonderful organisation.
Of course, Covid hit and so John carried on the role as Master through 2021 and we through that time raised over £2300 towards his goal.
Move forward two years and Deacon has now completed his training. The message from Guide dogs for the blind reads:
We have exciting news to share with you about the wonderful Deacon – he has qualified as a working guide dog, and is now part of a life changing partnership! Guide Dog Mobility Specialist, Georgia, had this to say about him: “Deacon is a straightforward boy, who is adept at guiding and has confidence in all environments. He guides on and off public transport, and can avoid obstacles in the street. Deacon is very willing, and actively puts his head into the harness”.
As with all new partnerships, Deacon and his owner will be supported as they each learn more about each other, and Deacon’s guiding skills will be polished even further. When he’s not working, Deacon loves going on free runs, especially with other dogs to play with. He proudly posed for the above photo, wearing his white guiding harness, to celebrate his qualification.
Thank you for your generous gift when naming Deacon, and we are sure you will be as proud of his incredible achievements as we are.
