Area 8 Raise £2940 for Pilgrims Hospice in Thanet

The 8th of July saw the members of Area host a Golf event to raise monies for the great work at the local Pilgrims Hospice.

The event was the brainchild of Reg Pritchard of Bradstowe lodge in Broadstairs, who seconded members and guests from Royal Navy lodge and the East Kent Masonic golf association to help and participate in the event which was held at Westgate and Birchington Golf club.   In total, 67 players formed 18 teams to take part.

With huge thanks to Andrew, Mark and Kevin at the golf club, the format was a shotgun start set for midday.   As this was a charity day, entrants were allowed to buy “Mulligans” to help boost their scores and hide those errant tee shots.   There was also a mock auction for the starting holes which enabled players to be closest to the 19th hole after their round!

The format was individual Stableford scoring with both a team prize and an extra reward for an “orange ball” competition.   In addition, there were prizes for the longest drive on the 12th Hole and nearest the pins on the 7th, 13th & 16th Holes.

The afternoon was followed by a delicious hog roast and a Charity Auction for a number of prizes which included rounds of golf at North Foreland and Royal St Georges Golf Club. In total, the event raised £2940.85 which was gratefully received by Karen Kenward of Pilgrims Hospice
